Please send a quick email to Councillors today to tell them about your concerns about heavy industrial development in Cainsville.
Time for public feedback closes September 30, 2025!
Talking points and email contacts are below!
The County of Brant is developing a plan for a 376 hectares (929 acres) employment hub in Cainsville to attract new business, with 138 hectares (340 acres) currently undeveloped. The majority of this land is zoned as heavy industrial employment lands, with some designated for general commercial, natural heritage, and community node. What these designations allow can be found on the image below.

On Aug. 14, 2025, Better Brant arranged a meeting between some of the residents and Michelle Schaefle, Brant County planner for the project.
Talking points for your email
Better Brant’s key concerns: environmental health impacts of adding more heavy industrial industries to an area where residents live (Pollution, noise, quality of life). The blue and red hatched employment areas on the map allow heavy industry such as autobody repair, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, and cannabis processing.
Wilf Davey, of Men’s Fire, Six Nations raised concerns about the consultation process with Six Nations and told the meeting that consultation must include Men’s Fire and the traditional chiefs. Davey raised concerns about land claims in Cainsville.
Summary of other concerns from local residents:
Low-Density Employment area? The area seems to be attracting sprawl employment for warehouse and logistic companies, with a lot of tractor trailer parking and storage. This despite the County’s goal of attracting higher density employment.
What are the financial impacts on residents (connection fees, taxes, benefit to residents)?
Need for better notification and engagement with the local residents, including residents along Old Onondaga Rd. and County Rd. 18
How will the county manage traffic and road safety in an already unsafe area?
How will development affect land value and enjoyment of property/area?
How will water use by industry affect the water table and residents’ wells?
Will residents be given a choice of public vs. private servicing?
Where wastewater will go, how will runoff and pollution be managed?
How is the county protecting wildlife?
What is the overall timeline of servicing and subsequent development?
Residents have also expressed a desire to not see development on the farmland south of the railway bridge.
Let your councillors know your concerns. David Bailey is the Mayor.
Councillors Brian Coleman and Christine Garneau represent Ward 5 which includes residents in and near Cainsville. But all members of Brant County Council will vote on decisions about heavy industrial development in Cainsville.
